Pella, Iowa. Nice place to travel. Working windmill not the only one there is also one in Holland, Michigan.

This site has a genuine, fully functioning Dutch windmill. Informative tours are available at a very minimal rate. The Miller is completely knowlegable about the construction and operation. Accessible for those with disabilities. There is a wonderful miniature Dutch village as,well as many life-size structures to tour.

This is an excellent museum and village to show early Dutch life in the 1800's. Also it has the only working windmill in the USA. You can tour it and purchase the ground wheat. We rented the Historical Village for a wedding reception. It was a beautiful venue. The staff were very helpful and easy to work with. There is also a great gift shop.

Great town lots of local foods. Windmill cookies made fresh daily

This was a fun stop on a road trip to Chicago. It's a beautiful drive to and from Pella, on the county roads (lots of barn quilt squares), and the town is charming. You can either take a guided tour of the historic village or see it on your own (price is the same). We chose to go on our own since we were on a schedule, and as a historian I felt that was a fine choice. However, if you are not sure on your historical interpretation, I'd recommend a guided tour--there are a lot of buildings with a lot of interesting items! I had no idea there was an Wyatt Earp connection to Pella!
